Public Health Nursing

The aim of the Public Health Nursing service is to provide a culturally safe health service, that protects the health of children and young people.

Public health nurses work in homes, schools, early childhood centres and in the wider community providing education, advocacy and support for children and young people throughout Taranaki. Their work includes education sessions in schools, parenting, behavioural concerns, child abuse, immunisation, infectious diseases, referral to health camp and regular self-referral clinics in intermediate and secondary schools, any general health concerns and B4 School Checks.

Public health nurses are based at Constance Street, Waiwhakaiho, but appointments are held at the Child & Adolescent Community Center (CACC) building at Taranaki Base Hospital, Hāwera Hospital, Stratford Health Centre, Opunake Health Centre, Patea Health Centre, Waitara Health Centre, and Mokau Health Centre.
