Ward 2B - Children and Young People
Our child health team is focused on family centred care for children and adolescents. Our aim is to provide a safe, friendly and caring environment. Respect, trust and honesty will enable us to achieve best possible health outcomes.
Ward 2B is located on level two of the acute services block at Base Hospital. It is a bright and friendly ward that admits patients from newborn babies, children and adolescents up to age 16. The ward caters for medical, surgical, mental health, orthopaedic and oncology patients as well as surgical day cases.
At the front of the ward is the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU), this provides short term treatment and monitoring, the patient is then either discharged home or admitted to the ward. PAU is open from 1130 – 1930 every day. Based in the PAU is our nurse operated outpatient clinic which runs four mornings a week.
Ward 2B has a professional team of nurses, doctors, nursing and medical students, health care assistants, a play specialist and a ward clerk. The ward is also supported by a dietitian, social worker, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, pharmacist, respiratory and diabetic nurse specialists and other allied health staff.
We work alongside Northern Health School, which is based in Devon Intermediate and the teachers will either come to the ward to work with school age children whose stay in hospital is greater than a few days or a stable child may attend Northern Health School’s classroom.
Visiting hours:
Open visiting for immediate family / caregiver only. One parent is encouraged to stay and participate in the care of their child.
