Fracture Liaison Service

Taranaki has a dedicated Fracture Liaison Service to support patients with fragility fractures. These are bones that have broken following a minor bump or fall that would not normally cause a bone to break.

These fractures are a symptom of osteoporosis, a common chronic bone disease that causes fragile or weak bones, affecting both men and women.

The Fracture Liaison Service makes sure anyone aged 50 and over who has a fragility fracture is assessed and receives treatment. The service is located at Taranaki Base Hospital in the Community Support Services department.
