Child and Adolescent Community Centre

The Community Team therapists work in a multi-disciplinary team to provide a coordinated therapy service for all children and adolescents with extra needs.

The team is an integral part of the Early Intervention Service provided by Health and Education, and networks with other community agencies. It consists of a visiting neurodevelopmental therapist, paediatric physiotherapists, paediatric occupational therapists and a speech-language therapist. Referrals come from self-referral, GPs, Plunket nurses, paediatricians, special education services, schools and ACC.

Children are assessed and treated at home, school or at the centre itself and appropriate specialist equipment is arranged for them.

There are clinics in both North Taranaki and South Taranaki. Clients include children with developmental delay, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, sensory disabilities, low birthweight babies and coordination problems.
