Taranaki DHB closes Ward 2a due to COVID-19 cases

17 June 2022

Taranaki Base Hospital is closing Ward 2a to all visitors from today due to a small outbreak of COVID-19 among patients.

The ward will remain closed to all visitors until at least midday on Monday, June 20 while the hospital follows its infection, prevention control guidelines to keep patients and staff safe, says Taranaki DHB’s chief medical officer, Dr. Greg Simmons.

“We know that whānau are an important part of a patients care, treatment and recovery, but we also need to continue to manage the risk of COVID-19 and other potential public health impacts in our hospitals,” says Simmons.

“We will endeavour to reopen the ward to whānau and support people as soon as it is safe to do so. The outbreak is a reminder that COVID-19 is still active and circulating in our community and our best defence to get vaccinated and have booster shots.”
