33 active COVID-19 cases in Taranaki

22 December 2021

Today the Ministry of Health is reporting one new COVID-19 case in Taranaki, an adult linked to the New Plymouth cluster.

The new case takes the total number of active cases for the region to 33.

Testing numbers have been steady throughout the region, with 478 tests completed yesterday, Tuesday 21 December.

More locations of interest have been listed on the Ministry of Health website over the past few days and people are encouraged to keep checking these on COVID-19: Contact tracing locations of interest | Ministry of Health NZ.

Taranaki DHB’s COVID-19 Response general manager, Gillian Campbell, says people who are heading away for Christmas need to keep an eye on COVID-19 symptoms developing given the community transmission in Taranaki at present.

“Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms should be getting tested before they go away.

“If people become unwell or get exposed to a COVID-19 case while on holiday away from home, they need to contact Healthline (0800 611 116) or check the Healthpoint website for testing centres in other regions.

“If advised to get a test, people need to do so as soon as possible; they should not wait until they get home to be tested.

It is recommended for people who intend to travel to read the advice and information on the Ministry of Health website - If you become unwell or test positive for COVID-19 while on holiday | Ministry of Health NZ.

Being a case or being a contact of someone with COVID-19 could be very disruptive so please make sure you have a Plan B, says Mrs Campbell.

“We encourage everyone in Taranaki to have a plan for dealing with COVID-19 over summer, especially for those travelling and wanting to return home safely.”
