Taranaki has one new COVID-19 case

7 December 2021

There is one new case of COVID-19 to report in Taranaki today.

The new case is a household contact of Taranaki’s only other case. Both are based in New Plymouth.

Taranaki DHB’s COVID-19 Response Manager, Gillian Campbell says the case was to be expected given they are a household contact.

“Even though this person tested negative for COVID-19 last week, they have been in isolation with their family member who is positive and have since contracted the virus which we anticipated might happen.

“Both cases have been in home isolation since last week and have been receiving appropriate care and support.”

Testing volumes remain steady across the region with 392 tests completed on Monday 6 December.

Mrs Campbell says anyone with symptoms should get a test straight away.

“We know some people have become a bit complacent since last week, but if you or anyone you know has developed cold or flu-like symptoms recently then we urge you not to delay getting tested. It could help stop the virus from being undetected in our community.”
