Lorna Street entrance and road closure

As part of the ongoing enabling works for Project Maunga Stage Two, the Lorna Street entrance to Base Hospital will be closed until further notice.

From Monday evening (19 April) there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access from Lorna Street (Gate 3 Rua Taranaki) onto Base Hospital grounds.

Lorna Street will also be closed to through traffic from Monday evening (19 April) for up to four days while installation of a new sewer line into hospital grounds can be completed.

Patients and whānau should use the David St Entrance (Gate 1 Tokomaru) to access the Emergency Department and Maternity Services.

Project Maunga Stage Two

The Lorna St hospital entrance long term closure is required as part of the facilitation work to establish a construction zone for the New East Wing Building development which will be a 20,000m2, six-storey building housing many of Taranaki Base Hospital’s acute clinical services including ED, ICU, Maternity, Primary Birthing, Neonatal, Radiology, Laboratory and a roof-top helipad.

This development is being undertaken as part of the Taranaki Base Hospital redevelopment works.
