Incident at Taranaki Base Hospital

2 August 2018

Taranaki DHB chief operating officer, Gill Campbell, provides an update on an incident that occurred at Taranaki Base Hospital on Wednesday 1 August, 2018.

Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred in the hospital carpark near Tukapa Street last night, where a man received an injury to his leg in an altercation with a group of men.

Whilst this investigation is underway Taranaki DHB is unable to make any further comment on the situation. We understand this incident will be concerning for many and want to reassure patients, staff and the community that their safety is our top priority.

People coming to Taranaki Base Hospital today will be able to do so safely, but may be impacted by restricted access to buildings and reduced car parking at the Tukapa Street entrance. Some hospital outpatient clinic appointments may be postponed or services relocated. Any patients affected by appointment changes will be advised.

We appreciate your patience at this time.
