Taranaki DHB Appoints New Chief Operating Officer

Taranaki District Health Board (TDHB) CEO, Rosemary Clements announced today the appointment of its new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Gillian Campbell to the role of Chief Operating Officer,” said Mrs Clements.

“Gillian brings to the role the right mix of clinical and health management experience as well as the enthusiasm, energy and total commitment to enhancing the acute and hospital services we deliver in Taranaki,” Mrs Clements said.

Gillian has been in the Acting COO role for the past 15 months. Previous to taking up the Acting role she was the Clinical Services Manager for Medicine and prior to this, the Manager for Hawera Hospital. During this time she also completed a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Gillian studied Physiotherapy, graduating in 1995 and was a Senior Physiotherapist at the DHB up until she moved into management.

Gillian Campbell said, “I am thrilled to be appointed to the COO role and am really looking forward to applying my health management and allied health clinical skills to the challenges the role brings.”

“To achieve the best outcomes for patients the Health Sector needs to work together. I am focused on the ways we engage with our large workforce, patients and the community.  Supporting staff to ensure quality patient centred care is delivered in Taranaki is also of utmost importance.”

Mrs Campbell’s appointment follows a consultative recruitment process that involved staff providing feedback about their views on the skills, experience and attitudes they thought were important in the appointee.

The attributes included; strong, inclusive leadership while remaining in touch with staff, excellent communication and relationship skills, the courage to make the hard decisions, is visible and able to engage with all staff, is open to new ideas and innovations and able to deliver a clear vision to address the challenges the health sector is faced with.

Gillian Campbell will take up the role of COO with immediate effect.
