Taranaki DHB Paediatric Services to receive generous donation

3 December 2015

Taranaki DHB’s Paediatric Services will receive a generous donation of $30,000 from the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal today.

Leigh Cleland, Taranaki DHB Clinical Services Manager, Maternal and Child Health said “We are incredibly fortunate to receive this generous donation from the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal. The donation will enable us to provide more care closer to the community for our children and families.  It is very much appreciated.

“Funding will go towards the purchase of a range of technical equipment that would allow Taranaki DHB to provide care for as many of our patients as possible, as close to their homes as possible,” Ms Cleland added.

Equipment earmarked for purchase at this stage includes an Electrocardiograph (ECG) Machine, a Cardiac Ultrasound Machine, Neonatal Monitors, Respiratory Humidifiers, Oxygen Blenders and a LiteGait Partial Weight Supported Treadmill.

“Children and young people are identified as a key population group which has the greatest opportunity to improve their health status in the short, medium and long term,” said Ms Cleland.

The Taranaki DHB Paediatric Service provides a range of services, including outpatient, day stay and inpatient medical services to the children of Taranaki. The 12-bed inpatient paediatric ward provides health care services for newborn babies right through to children aged 15.

Approximately 1500 babies are born each year at Taranaki Base Hospital’s maternity ward, with between 250 to 300 of those babies being cared for the in the ward’s Neonatal Unit. Admissions are made from throughout Taranaki, 24 hours a day.
