New Live Youth Health Show : ‘The Parauri Panel’

24 September 2013

Taranaki DHB Public Health Taiohi Tu Youth programme and Te Korimako o Taranaki are banding together in attempt to get young people to talk and think about their health.

Health Promoter Rewatu Carr said this was part of a wider campaign to increase positive messages for young people.

“We want to explore topical areas of wellbeing spanning, mental and emotional, sexual health, cultural and physical health for young people and to connect expert knowledge and role model advice to these key areas of wellbeing,” she said.

Every month we have a panel live on the radio and a guest speaker. This month joining the panel is Puna Wano Bryant who is a young lawyer, actively involved in Parihaka Papakainga Trust and Te Reo o Taranaki Trust and a local Zumba fitness instructor. She can often be sighted at iwi events taking kaumatua and rangatahi alike through their paces, so she really knows about holistic health and wellbeing and a fantastic role model.

“The first topic we cover is wellbeing and resiliency. We’ll have two ‘roaming reporters’ out and about going to young people, having korero with them about what they feel wellbeing is and what it means to them.”

If anyone wants to be involved in or listen the show is on Thursday September 26th between 8.00 and 8.30pm on Te Korimako o Taranaki radio.
