Taranaki DHB sees and treats its patients quicker than the rest of the country

19 June 2013

Taranaki is the first DHB to reach the goal of no patients waiting over five months for either a First Specialist Assessment or treatment.

With the May results just released by the Ministry of Health, Taranaki DHB has received a big congratulations for being first in the country to meet the elective surgery health target of seeing patients within five months.

Taranaki DHB Chief Operating Officer Rosemary Clements said the target was reduced from the six month wait. All DHBs are striving for the five month wait time and it is rewarding to for Taranaki to be the first to achieve it.

“This means our patients that qualify to see a specialist, will do so within five months and if they require surgery that will be done within five months too. This is an excellent result and it’s great for our community.”

“A lot of staff have worked very hard to ensure this target is met and to get there first in the country is a huge achievement.”
