St John Confirmed to run Ambulance Service in Taranaki

2 February 2011

The National Ambulance Sector Office (NASO) is pleased to announce that St John has been appointed the new provider of ambulance services for the Taranaki region, from 1 February.

NASO Group Manager Carol Clayton said St John and Taranaki DHB are working together to ensure continuity of services and public safety for the Taranaki community.

Chief Executive Jaimes Wood said St John is delighted to be confirmed and entrusted to provide the ambulance service to the people of Taranaki.

In November last year, St John was announced as the preferred candidate to be the new service provider of both emergency ambulance services and patient transfer services in Taranaki.

Mr Wood said the current ambulance service has provided well for local Taranaki communities and St John is committed to a delivering service that equally serves the community.

Taranaki people should continue to call 111 when they need an ambulance in an emergency.

All existing paid and volunteer ambulance staff in the local community will be part of St John. We have provided training and there is an induction programme for all the staff members, who are now St John employees.

St John has significant experience in delivering services to metropolitan as well as rural and remote communities around New Zealand, as well as working with volunteers.  We can also bring our ability and capacity to work from our robust infrastructure, systems and processes, both regionally and nationally, to provide services to the Taranaki region.
