Taranaki residents encouraged to support breastfeeding mums

03 February 2010

The people of Taranaki are being asked to support their breastfeeding mums as they take part in a photo competition.

Breastfeeding gives baby a great start in life and the competition is aimed at fostering wider acceptance of breastfeeding in public by encouraging mums to post photos online of themselves and their friends breastfeeding at scenic locations and well-known local landmarks. Regional winners will be selected by public vote.

Taranaki District Health Board Healthy Taranaki Development Manager, Becky Jenkins says Taranaki women are really getting into the spirit of the competition, and now it’s up to the public to vote for their favourite local snaps.

“And it’s not too late to enter – mums can submit their photos until 12th February.

Photos can be viewed and votes lodged at www.breastfeedingnzphotos.org.nz. The competition closes on 12 February.
