Supermarket Tours Offer Healthy Tips

Taranaki dietitians are running free supermarket tours pointing out healthy food options as part of Diabetes Awareness Week.

The theme for Diabetes Awareness Week, which is on between 18 and 24 November, is Healthy Choices for all the Family - Get on Board.

The supermarket tours will show people the best food choices for all the family, whether members have diabetes or not.

Participants will be divided into small groups, be shown how to read nutrition labels and given useful tips to help them make healthy food choices.

"By attending one of these supermarket tours participants will have all the necessary skills to make informed choices for all their family members," TDHB  Public Health Dietitian Jill Nicholls says.

The tours will be held at New Plymouth Pak‘nSave on 18 November from 10am-11am and on 24 November from 7.30pm-8.30pm, and at Hawera Pak‘nSave on 20 November from 7pm-8pm.

Registrations are essential. To register phone the Taranaki DHB’s Health Promotion Unit on 06 753 7799.
