Bell Block Funky Family Fun Day

The Bell Block Community Action Group is organising a school holiday programme for Bell Block children on Wednesday, 8 October.

It’s a holiday programme with a difference, as parents are required to accompany their children and spend the day with them, rather than just dropping them off.

The programme is the same for both days and both are already fully booked with 50 children each day. Children and their parents will be part of a fun day which is all about learning by doing.

Throughout the day there will be a variety of physically active games, a nutrition and cooking lesson with what they cook being eaten for lunch, an opportunity to be creative decorating a terracotta pot, as well as learning about planting and looking after vegetables. All children will go home with a vegetable seedling they have planted in their own decorated pot.

The aim of the day is to help children and parents be creatively active in the school holidays.
“Hopefully what they learn today they will try again at home,” said Anita Waugh, Taranaki DHB Health Promoter and member of Bell Block Community Action Group. “We know that when children help prepare food they eat better. Growing vegetables is a skill we would also like to see revived in every family.”

Media are invited to a photo opportunity at 11.30am on Wednesday 8th October at North Point Baptist Church, Mangati Road,  Bell Block.
