A Seat at the Table

District Health Boards Governance Observer Programme

24 July 2020

Taranaki DHB is taking part in a District Health board governance programme called ‘A Seat at the Table.’ The programme aims to mentor young adults interested in health board governance, in particular Māori, Pacific and disabled people.

The programme also aims to increase the diversity on District Health Boards by providing opportunities to develop governance skills for board observers.

The programme is for 12 months and the successful observer/s will be part of a board governing a District Health Board. The observer/s will participate as a board member in all aspects but will not have voting rights and will not form part of the quorum of a board meeting.

They will be provided with a board member as a mentor and there will be opportunities to meet with board observers on other District Health Boards to share learnings. Observers will attend board meetings and committee meetings, where possible, to further develop governance skills.

While the board will make final decisions, they welcome any contribution from the observer/s. There will also be governance development opportunities throughout the year and a great environment to learn off other experienced directors, executives and clinicians.

If you know someone who would be interested in this opportunity, please ask them to send their CV and covering letter to Jenny.McLennan@tdhb.org.nz

The programme will start in August 2020. The observer will be subject to usual pre-employment and background checks, and be asked to sign an agreement, including confidentiality guarantees, and declare any conflicts of interest.
