Taranaki DHB Pathology and Laboratory Stakeholder Feedback Update

18 April 2017

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback into the draft Service Specification for Pathology and Laboratory Services in the Taranaki region.  Feedback closed on Monday 3 April 2017 at 5pm and has now been collated.

Taranaki DHB received over 50 responses to our consultation, the majority through the Survey Monkey form.

Responses have been received from primary care, the hospital laboratory, the community laboratory, unions, hospital clinical staff and a range of other stakeholders.

The feedback provided included:

  • Factual Corrections – Clarification and correction on the current services provided, for example; opening hours of collection centres, arrangements for multi disciplinary teams, types and location of tests
  • Identification of Key Issues – There were three themes in the feedback that indicated the Service Specification required further work or clarification, specifically
    • Mortuary Services , Blood Bank, and Cross Boundary Flows (South Taranaki)
  • A range of varying opinions and further questions related to specific sections of the specification eg Point of Care Testing.

The feedback has been useful in informing the specification and is now being processed in detail and will be reviewed initially internally within the DHB as some issues can be easily managed (eg factual corrections) others will need further work and expert advice. This is a work in progress. The final draft specification will be reviewed by an independent Laboratory Scientist and a Pathologist for further input.
