Newborn Hearing Screening and Early Intervention programme anniversary

15 April 2013

This April we’re celebrating the hearing screening programme’s fourth anniversary:
Since 1st April 2009:

  • We’ve screened over 6000 Taranaki babies for hearing loss before they were 1 month of age.
  • We’ve referred 138 babies to Audiology for diagnostic hearing testing.
  • We’ve referred 388 babies identified with a risk factor for hearing loss for Audiology testing at 18 months of age
  • Audiology has identified 27 babies with hearing loss before they were 3 months old and these babies have received early medical and educational intervention.
To celebrate this occasion the Newborn Hearing Screening and Early Intervention programme presented a gift of a teddy bear kindly sponsored by Budget Rentals to the first baby born on our anniversary, 1 April.
