Occupational Therapy

Our Mission

Improving, promoting, protecting and caring for the health and wellbeing of the people of Taranaki.

Occupational Therapy Services at Te Whatu Ora Taranaki

We provide adult acute, paediatric acute and community care from Taranaki Base Hospital and Hawera Hospital.

Community Paediatric Occupational Services are provided in the Child & Adolescent Community Centre and Mental Health Occupational Therapy Services from the Mental Health Service.

Occupational Therapists are involved in all wards to provide assessment, treatment, education and rehabilitation, on referral.

The service may include provision of wheelchair and equipment loans, as appropriate, for patients returning home after an injury or illness. Home visits are completed to assess for any special equipment or modifications that might be necessary for the people to cope with reduced mobility during their rehabilitation and in the longer term.

“Occupational therapists work to support healthy lifestyles, prevent illness and disability, and promote and restore health through enabling participation in occupation” (Occupational Therapy NZ Position Statement)
