WE HEART TARANAKI campaign coming to WOMAD

12 March 2015

The Taranaki Health Foundation will be collecting donations for the WE HEART TARANAKI community campaign at the gates of WOMAD from Friday 13 - Sunday 15 March, at the New Plymouth Bowl of Brooklands. The campaign is raising money for a new angiography suite for Taranaki Base Hospital.

Taranaki Health Foundation Manager Bry Kopu said, “Our bucket collectors come from within the Taranaki DHB and our WE HEART TARANAKI major sponsor Methanex NZ- who are going to match dollar for dollar raised by their staff members. We really appreciate the support the collectors are providing to the campaign. Please keep an eye out for them at the gates at WOMAD and give generously.”

“The Foundation also wishes to thank Community Partner WOMAD NZ who have also got behind the campaign by allowing us to collect at their event” added Ms Kopu.

“This is the first time we have allowed any fundraising to occur at our event; but WOMAD is such an iconic event- a unique festival so what a great way to support the Foundation’s campaign to benefit Taranaki families”, says Suzanne Porter, Chief Executive of Taranaki Arts Festival Trust.

The WE HEART TARANAKI campaign recognises the partnership of the Taranaki Health Foundation, Taranaki Electricity Trust (TET) and Taranaki DHB to enable a new angiography suite for the region.

TET has pledged $1.2 million towards the much-needed technology, with Taranaki DHB prioritising a further $1.2 million from its operating capital. Another $1.2 million is to be fundraised by the WE HEART TARANAKI community campaign, to a total of $3.6 million.

Angiography is an X-ray technique to visualise the inside of blood vessels. The new machine will make it easier for everyone in our community to access cardiology and vascular care. “The Trust has named the campaign, ‘WE HEART TARANAKI’ because we want everyone to get behind the effort and feel proud that supporting this project will save lives and benefit families in Taranaki,” added Ms Kopu.

People can support the WE HEART TARANAKI campaign by downloading a ‘pledge’ form from www.wehearttaranaki.nz, donating on Give-a-Little, TSB Bank online or at any TSB Bank branch in Taranaki.
