Project Maunga, the redevelopment of Taranaki Base Hospital reaches another milestone next week as staff and patients begin to move across to the new building.
Esteemed Kaumatua from all over Taranaki will add their blessing to the new hospital at a dawn ceremony tomorrow Friday, 2 August before patients move in.
Chief Executive Tony Foulkes said the blessing marks an exciting time for our staff, patients and the community.
“It has been a wonderful journey getting to this point and tomorrow’s blessing acknowledges a huge milestone as we get ready for our services to relocate to the new building.”
“Our staff have done a great amount of work ensuring we are ready for this move and it will be with much excitement that they finally get to use the improved facilities,” he said.
Project Manager Base Hospital Redevelopment, Steve Berendsen said, “This is a special time for all involved as it signifies the final step in preparing our new hospital for the acceptance of patients. After the blessing has occurred, we will be ready for ‘go live’ on Monday, 5 August when our paediatric ward will lead off the migration into the new building followed over the week by our medical, surgical and Older People’s Health wards.”
There will be an official opening, when the whole building project is completed in early 2014.
