Project Maunga construction celebrated by Health Minister Tony Ryall

The official beginning of construction of the redevelopment of Taranaki Base Hospital – Project Maunga is to be celebrated with Minister of Health, Tony Ryall tomorrow.

Chief Executive Tony Foulkes said it marks a significant milestone in the development of Taranaki Base Hospital.

“I would like to acknowledge all the work a lot of people have done over the past year or two to be able to get to this day,” he said.

“This is not only significant to all the staff and patients who work and use this hospital, but for all of the people of Taranaki.  We can all feel excited at the progress that has been made, and the improvements to a hospital that will serve our community for many yeas to come.”

Project Maunga will see a brand new combined theatre suite and day surgery unit. A new paediatric inpatient ward and assessment unit.  A new Older Peoples Health & Rehabilitation ward and gymnasium.  A new orthopaedic and minor surgical specialities ward.  A general surgical ward and 2 new medical wards, the central hub of the hospital’s clinical services has effectively been redesigned to ensure we have a clinical environment that supports and enhances modern models of care.
