Masonic trust donates to Taranaki Base Hospital

28th September 2009

The Avant-Garde Lodge division of the Masonic Trust has donated more than $5000 to Taranaki Base Hospital for both occupational and physio therapy equipment.

A member of the Lodge was a patient in Ward one for about 6-8 wks, during which time he spent a lot of time with the therapists and was appreciative of the services available.

When he was discharged he wanted to do something for the Ward and therapists and convinced the lodge to use available funds to purchase equipment for the therapists.

Ward 1 senior physiotherapist Vicki Scott said that the patient asked me to write a wish list.

“We were amazed to find that most of the items on our wish list were purchased, she said.

'We are so very grateful for the equipment that the Lodge have helped to fund.  A lot of our equipment was becoming outdated and we will be able to use this new equipment on the ward to further benefit many more patients and to help them achieve their goals.”

The Avant Garde group of the Masonic Trust will come to the Physio department on Wednesday  30th at 1pm to present the equipment they are donating for Ward 1 therapists to use.

Items purchased include at a cost of $5800
Hydraulic pulpit frame for mobilising
Various walking quad sticks
Transfer boards for slide transfers bed to bed
Arm & leg pedals
Seated Exercycle
Nintendo Wii game
Rehab chair
