Child and Adolescent Mental Health
The Child & Adolescent Mental Health Team provides a specialist service throughout Taranaki, for youth up to the age of 18 years inclusive, who are experiencing severe mental health difficulties. This service is free.
What do we mean when we say severe mental health difficulties? Things such as:
- Eating disorders (including anorexia or bulimia)
- Bi-polar disorder
- Anxiety disorder
- Post Traumatic Stress disorder
- Attention Deficit & Hyperactivity Disorder
- Pervasive Developmental Delay (including Autism, Asperger’s syndrome)
The Team works from its base site in New Plymouth and has satellite clinics in Hawera & Stratford. The service is structured around multi-disciplinary teams, which utilise a keyworker system of care of which individualised recovery plans, risk management, discharge planning and service co-ordination are integral parts. These are developed with clients and their whanau. The Team also works in partnership with the Mental Health Crisis Team who provide out of hours cover for mental health emergencies.
The service accepts written referrals from government and private agencies involved in health, education and welfare.
